D-DAY 2004

Year 3 of the D-Day Invasion by Chuck Stoner. Another insane game at Skirmish USA on July 10th and 11th. This year, I was joined by 2710 D-Day wild players for the biggest D-Day game at Skirmish to date. It wasen't easy finding places to put 2711 campers, but they pulled it off. This year was a great year because we, the Allied forces, finally triumphed over the Nazi forced by a wopping 50 points.

They were ready for us.

While I was taking pictures during the landing, I saw a guy directing troops to the wall. He sent them in waves, not all at once. It worked great. We couldn't get over the top. The refs had to make them leave so the game could continue.

We got our kicks in too. The Germans were destroyed at the pentagon when our 500 paratroopers attacked them. We held it for hours!

Once the Germans "Moved On" we battled till nightfall.

At night a bunch of us came up with an idea. We would go behind the German command post, sneak in, handcuff and gag, the German general, set off a nerve gas smokebomb, and drag the general off the field. A simple plan right? After wondering around the back fields for an hour, a small group of us split off from the "leaders" and headed toward the firing. It's pitch black and we had 2 flashlights between the 8 of us. It's not that easy to find your way in the dark, let alone the fact that we had to deal with rododendrum bush forests that were impassible, and a couple of creeks. Did I mention this 20lb smoke bomb that we were dragging around. It almost was left in the woods. Anyways, we came out behind the "Hood in the woods". It was the wrong place originally. (Come to find out that they moved their CP back into the "Hood" while we were strolling in the woods. Plus the general was at the front lines. A FUBAR mission from the start.) We moved up on the village to the back of a small building on the outskirts. I took a look around the corner and what do I see? Atleast 20 Germans in a group! Out come the grenades. Pins pulled and ready to throw. We then had to take cover. The "leaders" were coming in behind us. Their goes our supprise. So we waited. The Germans moved off, our "leaders" move in and decide to shoot us. If I was a German, I would hide on the wrong side of the building too! After an exchande of words, the refs punched our cards and 3 of us took cover on the second floor of a building. Jeff, me, and the demo kid with the bomb held up in this building for half an hour. We could see everything, what little we could see through our fogged up maskes. So we started popping people off and shooting at the spot light. They were beating away at us. 4 grenades bounce off the side of the building. Light sticks were being thrown in the lower floor. In the end, we held them off for 45 minutes but they came up the stairs. (I wasen't paying attention.) I took 2 shot to my finger (After the barrel was jammed into my hand.) and the demo kid surrendered unfortunatly for Jeff who could not be seen hiding in the shadow. So much for the bomb. I was done. The next morning I just went out with my camcorder and shot video till we left.
The picture were damaged in the heat. I probably should of stuck them in the cooler. However, I like the way they came out.
